Last night’s episode of “Ink Master” was titled “Baby Beat-Down,” with Dave Navarro the host and judge, with the two expert judges, Oliver Peck and Chris Nunez.
With six tattoo artists already sent home, the rest of the field consists of: Craig Foster, ES, Jackie Jennings, Jason Clay Dunn, Jime Litwalk, Joey Hamilton, Joshua Hibbard, Kyle Dunbar, Made Rich and Tatu Baby.
For the flash challenge, the tattoo artists were brought to a zoo exhibit with ten animals in cages. Detail was the word of the day. It was a cold day in New York, and Jime was the artist who chose what animal the artists were to do. Because Joshua is the target, he received the hardest one; a porcupine. The canvases were presented in the skimpiest of clothing covered by a robe as they chose their canvases according to Jime’s choosing.
Left to do their sketches, the canvases left to meet them at the shop. Each artist had to air-brush their canvas into whatever animal was chosen for them. The winner was Kyle, who transformed his canvas into an awesome lizard.
Kyle got to choose the canvases for the elimination challenge, and the guest judge was Troy Denning, who most of the artist recognized immediately. The challenge was for Asian tattoos, that are very detailed. Jason is the only Asian tattoo artist among the group and is delighted that he just may redeem himself in this challenge. Because Joshua was the prime target of the group, he received what Kyle believed to be the hardest tattoo, that left Joshua perplexed. His canvas wanted a Geisha girl lying across the bottom of his back, using the only room he had left on his body. Jime is having a problem with his canvas, who wants to change his design in midstream. Jackie is having a rough time; her mother is very sick, and she is afraid that by being in the competition, she will lose some of the little time she has left with her.
At the critique, the four judges gave tough marks to the group. Made Rich failed, Jason, who should have done better, did not score well. Jackie made bad marks with her shading. Joey got so-so marks. Jime lost marks on the placement. ES lost marks on design flaws. Craig lost marks for his background. Kyle lost marks for lack of detail. Joshua lost marks for his placement too. Tatu Baby lost marks on the detail of the lion on her canvas and is losing confidence in herself and fears letting down the fans who voted her back. The human canvas jury voted, and Oliver came down to summon all the artists back to face their executioners. No best tattoo of the day was chosen, a first in this competition. Joshua’s was voted worst of the day by the human canvas jury. Made Rich’s Geisha girl’s face was distorted and Jackie’s lines and background blended into one mess. Rich was the artist who was sent packing on this episode of "Ink Master."
