After 10 years of building and organizing in the Northeastern region of the United States, the Iniversal Development of Ras Tafari Inc. (IDOR) has many exciting accomplishments. The organization’s new leadership team of Dr. Deena Marie Beresford (Mama Wolete), and Thea Browne-Dennis (Sister Thea), has exponentially increased the number of attendees to the Haile Selassie Sabbatical Study Group held each Saturday at Sankofa Bookstore; collaborated with Donisha Prendergast (film maker, youth activist and granddaughter of Bob and Rita Marley), in launching a US Northeastern Support Pinnacle initiative; collaborated with Reggae revival progenitor, Dutty Bookman on his “Easy Skanking” musical initiative; and, assisted Wally Kings Promotions in producing positive “message music” reggae shows in the region. The organization continues to build on its Elders Medical Project in Shashemane, Ethiopia, and also supports the Ras Tafari Nyahbinghi Centers in Ethiopia and Jamaica, and the Matriarchs Publication initiative in Ethiopia.
As part of its 10 year strategic plan, IDOR’s President and Vice President are travelling to Ethiopia on an official trip from May 20 – 31, 2014. While in Ethiopia the pair will participate in the anticipated “Ras Tafari: The Majesty and The Movement” exhibition, curated by Dr. Desta Meghoo-Tonge, and being held at the Ethiopian National Museum and Institute of Ethiopian Studies @ Addis Ababa University (AAU). They will visit and meet with African Union officials; visit the historic cities of Lalibela and Shashemane, and perhaps most importantly, they will visit Ras Tafari dignitaries and community representatives, including Reuben Kush, Wolde Selassie- King, Priest Paul, Ras Joseph and Solomon Wolfe. Also traveling to Ethiopia from the region is Jahril Bell, a Howard University student and son of Anjahla Marie (Sister Akua). Donisha Prendergast will also travel from the region to document the trod, the exhibition, and meet with representatives of the Ras Tafari community.
The building blocks of the IDOR organization are firmly planted in the ethos of Haile Selassie I vision for nation building, through personal development and diplomacy. May the organization continue to shine in the light of Ras Tafari!
