As many others in the metro area, the next time I renew my driver’s license, I will have to show a copy of my birth certificate. And like so many, I do not have a current copy. I’ve moved quite a bit in the course of my life and have no clue where it could be.
I no longer live in the state of my birth, again like so many in the metro area, so I did what so many will do, I googled the vital statistics for my home state of Louisiana. I began to enter my information and got to the end and realized the charge was $82.31 and the certificate would take between 60 and 75 days to receive. Not quite willing to pay that price, I called the state office of vital statistics and records. I was ecstatic to learn that the time frame to receive it would be within six to eight weeks and at a cost of $15.50. It certainly pays to do some research before paying exorbitant fees.
I felt it my duty to share this information with others, as well. The internet offers immediate access to so much information, but can also be a source of misinformation, as well. Some believe that if it is on the internet, then it must be true, but such is not the case.
As I thought about this, I couldn’t help but be reminded of how many well-meaning people are being deceived by those who would pervert the gospel of Jesus Christ, many well-meaning, of course.
When Paul was faced with this dilemma, he simply stated, “Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will: The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.” Philippians 1:15-18 (KJV)
There are times that the preaching or teaching of the Word of God sounds good, but the information and teaching does not line up with the true gospel of Christ. As Christians, we must seek the truth for ourselves and educate ourselves by reading God’s Word and spending time in prayer and meditation.
There will always be those who try to take advantage of situations and circumstances to exploit others, sometimes well meaning, but nonetheless, it is wise to seek out correct information, even if it is not always convenient or popular.
Jesus said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32 (KJV)
To obtain a driver’s license in the state of Georgia, one will have to show a certified birth certificate, to gain entrance into heaven; one will have to have been born again. “Jesus answered and said unto him, ‘Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.’” John 3:3 (KJV)
