Info 101: The Goalie Band

There are several devices and contraptions that can help a hockey goalie perfect his or her game. The Goalie Band is one of those products. Bob Unger has created this tool to help youth hockey goalies, but it is now being used by goalies of all ages.

“I was frustrated by my inability to prevent them from constantly backing up into the net instead of challenging shooters in practice sessions,” said Unger. “As a result, I came up with this practice training device which I have now used for several seasons and which has resulted in a marked improvement in the game performance of these young players.”

The goalie band has been introduced to and approved by several goalies with plenty of experience. Former National Hockey League star Ed Belfour, former Soviet Union goalie Vladislav Tretiak, and several goalies from the American Hockey League are among those introduced to the product.

The Goalie Band has evolved to become a teaching tool for both goalies and position players. For goalies, it can be used for screen shots, quick reaction, and cutting down angles. For skaters, it can be used to shoot the puck over a simulated goalie pad from close to the net, among other things.

One of the most appealing pieces of the Goalie Band is that it has been used by goalies and players of all ages. The Goalie Band is also an international teaching tool. It is currently being used at the Czech Hockey Camp.

Every youth program and youth goalie should at least consider using the Goalie Band. The recent feedback on the device has been tremendous.

“I'm getting a lot of positive feedback from clubs and coaches who have purchased it and say they're now feeling they're actually doing something productive and beneficial with their goalies in practice,” said Unger.
