Info 101: Sisterlocks™

There comes a time in many natural-haired women’s lives when the question is asked, “Would you ever lock your hair?”  The responses vary, however for those who give a complete ‘No’ perhaps they have not seen Sisterlocks™.

What are Sisterlocks™?

Created and patented by Dr. JoAnne Cornwell, Sisterlocks™ consist of a hair-locking technique using a patented tool and method.  The end result is a set miniature uniform locks.  They may be mistaken for micro-braids by the untrained eye, but it is important to note that there are absolutely no extensions used with this hairstyle.

How do you maintain Sisterlocks™?

Maintenance is similar to that of traditional locks in that you can expect a salon visit every four to six weeks.  With traditional locks, you receive a re-twist, while with Sisterlocks™ you receive a re-tighten.

“Sisterlocks™ are so wonderful to me because for the very first time in my life, I truly love my hair. I do not have to put any chemicals nor is heat in it, and it growing longer than it ever has before.  Believe me, I measure it! The size of Sisterlocks™ gives me the versatility to style my hair in a number of styles. I can swim and exercise or even take walks in the rain, and do not have to worry about my hair.”

-Kimberly Jordan, Sisterlocks™ Trainee of Richmond, Va.
