Alice Cooper (Vincent Furnier) is bringing his incredible band back to Minneapolis--to the intimate confines of the State Theater. It is one of Minneapolis' best venues and one of Cooper's favorites. He made an appearance on the KQRS-FM Morning Show this morning (Wed., Feb. 27, 2013). "The State really is a great venue," he agreed with host Tom Barnard. "We play a lot of large venues, you know, 60,000, 80,000 people and it's fun but it's better in a place like the State. The audience can see every little detail of our set, every little nuance."
Alice Cooper is known as the King of Shock Rock due in large to the band's over-the-top use of gimmicks like blood, guillotines, electric chairs, etc. "It's funny because it's so extreme," he told Barnard with an evil little chuckle. "It's an extention of what the filmmakers who made "Army of Evil" did. There was so much blood and just when you thought there couldn't be any more blood, there was twice as much again. It's over-the-top and that's what Alice Cooper is. Eventually, you just have to laugh."
Despite the theatrics, Alice Cooper's music is the root of their success. Songs like "I'm 18", "School's Out" and "No More Mr. Nice Guy" are always in vogue with each passing generation. "The secret is to have songs like these that (the audience) can identify with. You play a song like "I'm 18" for a group of kids today and they say, "Hey, I'm 18 and I'm not sure what's going on either"."
Alice Cooper has experimented with all kinds of musical styles including conceptual, art, hard, pop, experimental and industrial rock as well as New Wave. His best album and tour was "Welcome to My Nightmare" but this, the "Raise the Dead" tour promises to be just as intriguing. "We'll do the hits but we've mixed in some surprises that will make for a great and fun evening." The band includes Chuck Garric on bass, Orianthi and Ryan Roxie on guitars, Glen Sobel on drums and multi-instrumentalist Tommy Henriksen.
