THE CROODS from DreamWorks Animation opens March 22, 2013. Stars: Ryan Reynolds, Nicolas Cage, Emma Stone, Clark Duke, Cloris Leachman. Directed by Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco ("How to Train Your Dragon").
The Croods are an introverted family who find themselves guided out of their cave into the dynamic world by a resourceful newcomer (Reynolds) who may bring more stress than relief to the patriarch (Cage) of the family.
Co-director Chris Sanders has worked on several animated films in one capacity or another since 1990 Here's a sampling of his resume: "The Rescuers Down Under", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin", "The Lion King", "Mulan", "Lilo and Stitch". He's been a storyboard artist, a writer, a character developer and a director. Some of these films have made a buck or two and just might have become somewhat memorable.
Kirk DeMicco wrote "Quest for Camelot" and "Racing Stripes", wrote and directed "Space Chimps" and has now teamed up with Sanders for their second film. This will obviously be the highlight of this weekend as the combined talents of these men bring "The Croods" to the big screen.
It will be a hilarious romp through the stone age with good humor, great music and fun sight gags. This is a culmination of sorts of all the best of the films named herein. Not a rip-off, not living on laurels, not even cashing in on the reputation of those films. It is a way of putting their own vision on the screen in a way that is their own with a tip of the cap to their past. All this is accomplished with a stellar cast.
