" 22 JUMP STREET" from Sony Pictures opens Fri., June 13, 2014.

STARRING: Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ice Cube, Peter Stormare and Amber Stevens.

DIRECTOR: Phil Lord and Chris Miller ("21 Jump Street", "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs", "The LEGO Movie")

SYNOPSIS: Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) find themselves undercover at a local college to stop more drugs from being spread.

Isolated on an island of hopeless despair, one cares more about Kelly Ripa's oral health than this half-witted attempt at humor. Obviously, this stuff is a laugh riot because so many people shelled out the bucks for the first one. Clearly, everyone who saw that one absolutely loved it and was glad they spent those bucks. Plus, Lord and Miller directed one of one's favorite animated features. Yet, one is isolated on an island of hopeless despair, not laughing, worried sick that Kelly's mouthwash will fail her and she'll get a cavity.

Perhaps it's the male leads in the film. They're almost likable and no one has ever accused either lad of being rude to puppies. Yet, their antics fall just short of being funny. Just like the Three Stooges. One can tell there's humor lurking very close by, they just haven't found it. It's the same movie as the first one and they do the same things...with even more rap in the soundtrack. Don't even get that started. Kelly, Sweetie, don't be so quick to dismiss Listerine.
