"THE FAULT IN OUR STARS" from 20th Century Fox opens Fri., June 6, 2014.
STARRING: Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, Laura Dern, Sam Trammell, Milica Govich and David Whalen.
DIRECTOR: Josh Boone ("Stuck in Love")
SYNOPSIS: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few more years, Hazel (Woodley) has never been anything but terminal. But when a handsome plot twist named Augustus Waters (Elgort) suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten.
The last time one voluntarily subjected oneself to a story like this was watching Mandy Moore die in "A Walk to Remember". That was mostly to hear her songs from the soundtrack, not because there is any joy in watching a beautiful young woman kick the bucket. This soundtrack does not include any songs by Ms. Moore so there's no reason for this guy to go alone to watch the inevitable.
Mike Evans, KQRS-FM's Morning Show Hollywood reporter did give this film a solid 3 out of 4 stars, stating that he enjoys this kind of tear-jerker. So, someone has to and this film will appeal to all who believe in the Beatles' lamest song (All You Need is Love). It's a greeting card philosophy that has no basis in reality. Call one a cynical old man if you will but life has taught one some ugly lessons and time does not heal any wounds. See this if you're inclined and support it if you will. There's nothing wrong with it and no one will judge you (maybe).
