"BEARS" from Disneynature/Disney Films opens Fri., April 18, 2014.

DIRECTOR: Keith Scholey ("African Cats") and Alastair Fothergill ("Earth", "African Cats", "Chimpanzee")

SYNOPSIS: Bears cozies up to the Brown Bears who call Alaska's stunning coastal mountains and shores their home, revealing through tender moments and entertaining imagery how these animals are far from 'grizzly' creatures.

Happy (almost) Earth Day, citizens of Earth. It's a PC thing to say but we do all live here and some things are worse than others. For a critic, a film like "Bears" is difficult to review. If one likes it too much, you're too far left, prejudiced and/or over-zealous. If one doesn't like it, you're too far right, short-sighted and/or self-centered. If one has no opinion, you're ignorant and/or uncaring. Somewhere in all that hyperbole is this critic/writer.

One doesn't spend much time wondering what bears do in Alaska or even northern Minnesota. One is happy that they're outside and away from one's food and electronics. Were one to have even a passing interest, these documentaries by Disney Films are great source material. All that's missing is Marlin Perkins and the Mutual of Omaha logo hidden in the background. Kids will love this. Go. Learn. Have fun.
