"SABOTAGE" from Open Road Films opens Fri., March 28, 2014.

STARS: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Joe Manganiello, Sam Worthington, Harold Perrineau, Terence Howard, Max Martini, Josh Holloway, Olivia Williams and Mireille Enos.

DIRECTOR: David Ayer ("End of Watch")

SYNOPSIS: Schwarzenegger portrays the leader of an elite DEA task force that takes on the world's deadliest cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house they think all is done. But one-by-one, the ten members mysteriously start to be eliminated.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has done many excellent revenge movies in his career. He's even done a couple that were just pretty good. The stories were concise, the action was perfectly choreographed and the flippant one-liners were funny. This film will never be remembered as one of those. "Sabotage" doesn't stink horribly but it's not a high-quality production either.

Simply put, Arnold is trying too hard to recapture what he used to be instead of trying to etch a new personna of what he is now. What he is now is an older man who's still in good shape but with a more mature mindset. He could take some pointers from Sly Stallone who stays within the limits of what his aging body can take. Stallone shares the limelight with other actors who also are older and wiser. Arnold apparently doesn't like to share.

As a result of that self-centered misguided ego, he keeps turning out inadequate nightmares that leave nothing behind on their way out. Sadly, this is better than the pointless unfunny "A Haunted House 2" which opens this weekend but deserves no further mention.
