"NEED FOR SPEED" from DreamWorks opens Fri., March 14, 2014.
STARRING: Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Imogen Poots and Michael Keaton.
DIRECTOR: Scott Waugh ("Act of Valor")
SYNOPOSIS: Framed for a crime he didn't commit, muscle car mechanic and street racer Tobey (Paul) gets out of prison determined to settle the score with the man responsible for his false conviction. Tobey tears up the road in a cross-country journey--one that begins as a mission for revenge but proves to be one of redemption.
Ah, yes. Revenge is a dish best served with a side of motor oil. This is another case that Matlock could have dispensed with during lunch. He'd have had a gas with the aftermath of this extended chase scene though. Basically, if you've seen the trailer you've seen the film. If you've seen the film, you're wishing you'd stuck with the trailer.
Still, it's risky to just dismiss this deep message film as trite garbage. Recalling the list of absolute rubbish that was nominated for this past Oscar extravaganza, there could possibly be some deeply significant meaning to the 'redemption' involved here. It might even be that so much mindless violence and mis-use of perfectly good cars is covering up that message with its moronic dialogue and empty facial expressions. We'll have to wait for an equally ridiculous explanation from Ellen DeGeneres. Who else knows as much about moronic dialogue and empty facial expressions?
It should also be noted that if this is the kind of project that is occupying Steven Spielberg's time he really needs to get more involved in "Jurassic Park 4: Jurassic World". This film is a low point even for the people who assemble the end credits.
