"300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE" in 2D, 3D and IMAX from Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures opens Fri., March 7, 2014.

STARRING: Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green and Lena Headey.

DIRECTOR: Noam Murro ("Smart People")

SYNOPSIS: Greek general Themistocles (Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge against the massive Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Santoro) and Artemesia (Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy.

Peter Graves' less than appropriate query in "Airplane" would have included this film had it been made at that time. These overblown productions featuring a lot of men in leather skirts and sandals can lose their appeal very quickly. There is precious little strategy involved in the battle scenes, the story is disjointed and vague and there are very few characters with which to identify or care about.

However, Eva Green is one of them. She looks even hotter than she did as Vesper in the 2006 Bond film "Casino Royale". She had a more integral part in the Bond film but she gets naked in this one, a definite plus compared to the overwhelmingly male cast. She's spectacular along with her talents as an actress.

Other than that, this is just another gladiator movie which will pass into oblivion like the first one. It could end up as part two of yet another trilogy but who knows for sure. This one has been "in the works" since 2008. Save a date for spring of 2020.
