Good news, movie junkies. This film has already received many negative reviews from critiots who've declared the central character to be unlikable, the source material stretched too thin and the running time too brief. They also proclaim that "The Nut Job" will provoke an allergic reaction in all but the least demanding moviegoers. Really? This from critiots who raved about some really shallow material that is nominated for an Oscar this year? Spare us the righteous indignation about a cartoon for kids.
The Oscars don't always reflect the desires of everyone who goes to see movies. This rank and over-rated popularity contest has its own list of favorite people and topics. Everyone and everything else is an outsider with no chance of winning. It's a ridiculous farce with no real meaning as to what was good in theaters and what was intolerably overplayed just for the sake of this award. Still, "The Nut Job" is being released this weekend so pack up the kids and have a little fun and family time.
Also opening this weekend: "Ride Along".
