"WALKING WITH DINOSAURS: THE 3D MOVIE" from 20th Century Fox opens Fri., Dec. 20, 2013.
STARRING: John Leguizamo, Justin Long, Tiya Sircar, Skyler Stone, Karl Urban, Charlie Rowe and Angourie Rice.
DIRECTOR: Barry Cook ("Arthur Christmas") and Neil Nightingale ("Enchanted Kingdom 3D").
Synopsis: The journey of two brothers who happen to be Pachyrhinosaurs hoping to follow in their father's footsteps leads to a showdown in the Arctic North.
The story of the dinosaurs is bookended by live-action footage. The book-end footage features Karl Urban taking his nephew and niece to a dinosaur excavation site. It provides an excellent opening and closing to some of the most incredibly realistic animated film ever. Kids of all ages will marvel at this production and have much to discuss. It's kind of the perfect holiday film in that regard.
The visuals are correct according to the research of a team of paleontologists hired by the filmmakers to ensure historical accuracy. The only side-step from that principle was to add voiceovers for the main creatures. Many critics have voiced a negative reaction to the dialogue but it was added to appeal to younger kids so it's not that big a deal. It's certainly not a deal breaker.
