"ESCAPE PLAN" from Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate opens Fri., Oct. 18, 2013.
DIRECTOR: Mikael Hafstrom ("1408", "Shanghai")
Ray Breslin (Stallone), the world's foremost authority on structural security, agrees to take on one last job: breaking out of an ultra-secret high-tech facility called the 'Tomb'. When he is wrongly imprisoned, he must solicit help from fellow inmate Emil Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to develop an escape plan from the most protected and fortified prison ever built.
This is it! The throwback to the big bad action movies of the 1990s, complete with two of the larger-than-life action heroes of the 1990s. This is "Escape From Alcatraz" on steroids AND Human Growth Hormones times ten. This film has everything action movie lovers love--an impossible situation, anti-heroes, macho dialogue, violence, explosions, chases, great stunt work and tongue-in-cheek humor.
Having this film out opposite "Carrie" should give Sly and Arnold a good idea of where their careers are at this point in their lives. Arnold's comeback film ("The Last Stand") did horribly at the box office but his presence in Stallone's ("Expendables 2") was lauded by some as a job well done. "Expendables 3" is becoming a highly-anticipated commodity. This film is the duo's most extensive screen time together to date. It's all dependent on the age of the audience and their willingness to go see this film--especially with such a great remake making the choice harder.
This is a genre of film that may have seen its best days. Certainly these two actors are not as young as they used to be and their stunt doubles are doing much more of the work. It's still fun to go and watch these two play off each other. Here's to the good old days!
