"CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS 2" from Sony Pictures Animation opens Fri, Sept. 27, 2013.
STARRING: Bill Hader, Anna Faris, Will Forte, Andy Samberg, Kristen Schaal, Terry Crews, James Caan and Neil Patrick Harris.
DIRECTOR: Cody Cameron and Kris Pearn.
Following the devastating food storm caused by his machine, Flint Lockwood (Hader) and his friends are forced to leave Swallow Falls. Flint joins the Live Corp. Company which has been hired to clean up the island. Upon his return, Flint discovers that his machine is still working, creating sentient food beasts such as hungy tacodile supremes, Shrimpanzees, melonheads and many more. It's up to Flint and his friends to stop the machine before any of the foodimals escape the island.
This should easily be the funniest and most creative animated film of the year. With most of the core cast returning (including James Caan and Anna Faris), it will seem familiar to the younger set who enjoyed the first one and the older set who refuse to outgrow this kind of fun. The most noticeable change is Terry Crews ("The Expendables 1 & 2") taking over for Mr. T as Officer Earl. The 2009 film was based on Judi and Ron Barrett's book of the same name. The screenplay for Part 2 is an original idea instead of being based on "Pickles to Pittsburgh", Barrett's follow-up book.
The film will feature 39 food-animal hybrids known as foodimals, several of which will be voiced by the directors. Cameron worked as a story artist on the first while co-director Pearn was head of story on the first. Paul McCartney's single, "New" from his 2013 album, will be featured on the soundtrack.
Also opening this weekend are Ron Howard's "Rush", Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut "Don Jon" co-starring Scarlett Johansson and David Talbert's "Baggage Claim", a completely useless rom-com with no intrinsic value.
