Info 101: Movieclips 11: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters terrorizes theaters

HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS from MGM Pictures and MTV Films, Distributed by Paramount Pictures opens Fri., Jan. 25, 2013. Starring Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, Famke Janssen, Peter Stormare and Zoe Bell. Directed by Tommy Wirkola ("Kill Buljo: The Movie"; "Dead Snow").

Fifteen years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, Hansel (Renner) and Gretel (Arterton) have become a formidable team of bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world.

Apparently, tough economic times have yet to touch Paramount Pictures or MTV Films. At least not as hard as they've hit MGM. It seems they're willing to throw money at just about anything presented them--even ridiculous garbage like this. Plus it's in 3D. Wow! That should come as welcome news to everyone trying to peddle schlock.

Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker"; "Mission Impossible--Ghost Protocol"; "The Avengers"; "Bourne Legacy") is obviously taking a break from sensible choices. Arterton ("Quantum of Solace"; "Clash of the Titans") just needs the work. Famke Janssen ("Golden Eye"; "Deep Rising"; "House on Haunted Hill"; "X-Men series") must be bored.

Either way, this will make money because people will be bored this weekend with no football. The fact remains that MGM and MTV spent $60 million to make this farce. Paramount spent their reputation to distribute it. There's a price for everything.
