The Motorcycle Examiners are working hard to get you riders a list of the motorcycle laws for each state. Several are already up and there are more being posted everyday, so keep checking back. The Kansas motorcycle laws are compiled below.
If you live in the Metro you're apt to do the skid lid stow and go when you hit the state line. I know I do. That's right, the Jayhawkers live in the land of the freedom of lid. Ain't life sweet? At least it is if you're over 18. But, then again, life is sweet in other ways when you're 18.
Road
- Safety Helmet - Required by law under age 18
- State Funded Rider Ed - Available for all eligble applicants
- Eye Protection - Required by law unless equipped with windscreen
- Daytime use of headlight - Required by law-required for vehicles manufactured during or after 1978
- Passenger seat - Required if carrying a passenger
- Passenger footrest - Required if carrying a passenger

- Helmet speakers - No restriction
- Periodic Safety Inspection - Required by law - random
- Mirror Left(L) Right(R) - One on left side required by law

- Turn signals - 8-1804 Chapter 8.--AUTOMOBILES AND OTHER VEHICLES Article 18.--UNIFORM ACT REGULATING TRAFFIC; EQUIPMENT ON MOTORCYCLES AND MOTOR-DRIVEN CYCLES 8-1804. Stop lamps and turn signals. (a) Every motorcycle and motor-driven cycle shall be equipped with at least one (1) stop lamp meeting the requirements of subsection (a) of K.S.A. 8-1721. (b) Every motorcycle manufactured after January 1, 1973, shall be equipped with electric turn signals meeting the requirements of subsection (b) of K.S.A. 8-1721. 1804; July 1.

(a) All motorcycles are entitled to full use of a lane, and no motor vehicle shall be driven in such a manner as to deprive any motorcycle of the full use of a lane. This subsection shall not apply to motorcycles operated two (2) abreast in a single lane.
- Lane Splitting - 8-1595. Same; roadways laned for traffic (b) The operator of a motorcycle shall not overtake and pass in the same lane occupied by the vehicle being overtaken. (c) No person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles

By choice Ill always wear a helmet but its nice to see a state that allows adults the opportunity to make this decision for themselves
