Shreveport Harley Owner's Group patch
For $45, one can buy dinner for two at a local restaurant, if you're frugal, that is. For $45, one can buy a t-shirt at the Harley Shop, if you're lucky, that is. For $45 one can buy membership in the Harley Owner's Group (H.O.G.), if you're smart, that is. Membership in H.O.G. has been laden with rewards since 1985, and is one of the best deals around. Assuming you already have the Harley, the obvious next step is to become a member of the Harley Owner's Group. And, best of all, because the Harley-Davidson Motor Company feels so strongly about the benefits of membership, they'll give you the first year free when you buy that new bike. Otherwise, you can join on line at the H.O.G. site. As a member you'll receive such benefits as roadside assistance, free patches and pins, membership in Ladies of Harley (if you're eligible), the HOG magazine, invitations to State and National rallies, an invitation to join a local chapter, and inclusion in programs such as the ABCs of touring and the HOG mileage program.
The roadside assistance program is a great incentive in itself, and if you ever have to use the towing, H.O.G. will pay up to $100 of the bill, once per year, and they'll pay it up front, not as a reimbursement. For whatever reason you may find yourself stranded; a flat tire or a mechanical break down, you can rest assured, you'll be glad you had your H.O.G. membership. With 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, road side assistance, just dial the toll free number listed on the back of your membership card, and help will be on the way. You can also increase your coverage with the deluxe package for $19.95 per year or the ultra package for $29.95 per year. For more information or to sign up for this increased benefit log on to Road America.
Once you're a member of National H.O.G., you can join a local chapter. Fees vary locally, but in both Shreveport and Bossier City the cost of membership is $20 per year. You can be a member of more than one chapter, and dual membership at both Shreveport and Bossier is common. Better still, if you buy a new bike from the Shreveport or Bossier dealership, you'll get a complimentary one year membership to the local chapter, too. Chapter charters are designed for Harley owners to simply "ride and have fun", and certainly local chapters offer that. The Shreveport chapter has rides nearly every weekend, parties throughout the year, and a chance to meet other people with like interests. The local chapter is where one can meet lifelong friends. And, at Shreveport and Bossier locations, the dealer offers a 10% discount on most store merchandise one hour before and one hour after the monthly general membership meeting. Also, the local dealer will hold special members only discounts throughout the year. Parties, giveaways and promotions are common at the Shreveport and Bossier locations. For information on joining either the Shreveport or Bossier chapters, follow the links below.

HOG membership is great! You will meet some really wonderful people (and of course some you never want to see again - buy hey you take the good with the bad).
I like that dealerships near you have discounts for HOG members; ours don't. :( Oh well you take the good with the bad.
When we had the Harley, we never got around to joining our local HOG Chapter, although many of our riding friends are members and road captains. We did, however, belong to the national HD owners group. Now, it's all about BMW. But, Brian hasn't totally ruled out owning a Harley sometime in the future.
