Originally from Kokomo, and currently based in Indianapolis, Indiana, pop/rock band Shiny Penny will bring its unique original sound to the Vans Warped Tour at Klipsch Music Center on Thursday, July 3rd, as one of the winners of the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands 2014 contest. Ernie Ball is the iconic premium guitar string manufacturer whose Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands contest has grown to become one of the most successful live music promotions of its kind, with over 25,000 bands entering every year, offering a platform for emerging musicians to cultivate their craft, create networks and establish a community. For Shiny Penny to have the opportunity to perform one time, on a large stage, and in front of many potentially likeminded fans in their hometown is priceless.
"We played Vans Warped Tour in 2012 and we won the same contest." said Brad DiCarlo, lead guitarist and backing vocalist for Shiny Penny. "All we did was sign up on their website. It happened." Dean Schimmelpfennig, lead vocalist for Shiny Penny stated, "We'll be playing Thursday, July 3rd, between 11:30am to 2:00pm. We won't know until the day of exactly when we play. I got a call this year. It wasn't like that two years ago. They actually called me this time and said that they selected us to be on Warped Tour. That was it. It was pretty simple. They said 'congratulations' and sent us an e-mail with all the details we needed to know. It's a pretty simple process."
Shiny Penny has been gaining in popularity with its latest single entitled, Insanity, released on December 29, 2013, (listen to Insanity on SoundCloud here), the release of its debut album entitled, The Anti-Boondoggling Movement, on May 1st, 2013, (listen to Boondoggler's Anthem on SoundCloud here) and EDM re-mix collaboration with DJ Nutro on Mr. Welker, (listen to Mr. Welker on SoundCloud here).
In a span of 3+ years, Shiny Penny has experienced both local and commercial success. They've shared the stage with many national acts and played in front of 3,000+ crowds, including slots on the Indianapolis leg of Warped Tour 2012 and Rockstar Uproar Tour 2013. They've also received radio play, including spins on Kokomo's Z92.5, North Central Indiana's Rock 98.5, Indianapolis' X103 and Q95, including time on the nationally syndicated Bob and Tom Show. The VANS WARPED TOUR is well established as America’s premier music and lifestyle festival of the summer, breaking up-and-coming indie talent as well as both creating and showcasing major established artists since 1995. The nationally-renowned festival is the most eclectic traveling tour and features a diverse array of artists--with hotly tipped acts in every genre from punk, metal and indie to rock, hip-hop, rap, electronic, reggae and pop; as well as a variety of lifestyle attractions for its traditionally low ticket price. The tour has cemented its place in history by bringing punk rock/skate/action sports culture from the underground to the forefront of global youth culture, while at the same time helping those in need and being the first tour to consistently use groundbreaking environmental concepts every year on the road. The Warped Eco Initiatives (WEI) focus on making the tour more environmentally friendly whether it is through eco conscious catering for the artists and crew courtesy of Tada Catering or a solar-powered sound system on the Kevin Says Stage.
