Indianapolis is preparing for the Big 10 Championship Game weekend as well as the first potentially dicey winter storm of the season. One free activity threatened by the coming storm is the ‘Meijer Tail Greater Party’ outside on Georgia Street near Lucas Oil Stadium.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch that includes the Indianapolis metro area with up to five inches of snow mixed with ice and sleet forecast starting Thursday December 5th and continuing through Friday evening. The first installment of the party on Georgia Street runs from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and game day from noon until 8:00 p.m.
This free event will feature food trucks, a beverage garden and live music. Georgia Street was the scene of similar activities during the 2012 Super Bowl. The street has several elevated heaters that provide some relief from inclement weather. Conditions at the time of Friday’s event will determine the effectiveness of these heaters.
The Indianapolis Star quotes John Dedman, a spokesperson for the Indiana Sports Corporation as stating that the street party will go on rain or shine. Hopefully for the folks in downtown Indy the bulk of the storm will track further south.
