The Presidio Social Club fêted their 7th Anniversary with a fabulous party. Clearly they have mastered the secret of success. Perhaps it's their location in a National Park or maybe it's the classic menu that contributes to their popularity and longevity.
A welcoming environment greets you from the moment you step through their doors. The restaurant is located in one of the historic buildings on the Presidio. They were careful not to change the character of the building while transforming it into a inviting gathering space. During warm weather the patio is the perfect place to dine. The long bar is a great place for a drink, to catch up with friends or to enjoy a snack.
The restaurant’s popularity with locals comes from the creative menu featuring comfort food that is fresh and innovative. Feeling adventurous we set about to sample as many items on the menu as possible. We began the meal with a glass of rose bubbles, versatile enough to pair well with almost everything.
An appetizer special of (peanut- fed pork) Pancetta with Meyer lemon and puntarelle was to die for. The PSC gruyere cheese toast was served with a tomato fondue dip, a nod to the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup combo, it was satisfying and indulgent. Next we tried the Dungeness crab and citrus salad with avocado, fennel, and beets in vinaigrette that was rich yet light.
The Petrale sole was served with fennel, leeks, and ginger salad. The subtle flavors complemented the light, flaky fish. We couldn’t resist the pasta special, a handmade Fennel parpadalle with pork sugo. A glass of Sangiovese paired perfectly with the sumptuous pasta.
Dessert should be a special occasion so we went all in and enjoyed the wine pairings with each of the desserts we sampled. It was decadent but so worth it! This is a highly recommended ladies outing – a dessert sampling paired with sparkling wine.
For dessert we had to try the Brioche Beignets which were amazing, especially with the hot chocolate dipping sauce and paired with a Roderer Estate bubbly. The Lemon Meringue Cake is a favorite; it is light, tangy and decadent, like eating a cloud. The Mocha Crunch Torte and the Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sandwich were fabulous – the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors. The Spiced Bread Pudding was surprising with its’ firm texture and spicy flavors. We paired these with Lustau Dry Amontillado Sherry from Spain. And speaking of decadent, we really couldn’t consume another bite and had to take the cookie selection home in a doggie bag.
