There is bad news for lovers of snow on this Valentine's Day: There's less than a month of snowboarding and other snowy goodness left this season. But there is good news, too: You can now save money on gear that you can use next season, and what's left of this one.
Starting tomorrow, you can save 35 percent on various goods at Hoigaards, of St. Louis Park. Hi Tempo, of White Bear Lake, is now in the second day of a six-day sale. Head to the website of Valley Bike and Ski, of Apple Valley, for a coupon that will give you 50 percent off downhill equipment. Joe's Sporting Goods, of St. Paul, is offering 30 percent off. If you're making some turns at Buck Hill, visit Zombie Board Shop, just north of the ski area, on Buck Hill Road. They've marked select items 10 to 25 percent off. Other stores will be having season-end and close-out sales, too.
Is there any downside to buying now? There are two, actually. One is that you have missed out the chance to use new board, or whatever it is, until the end of the season is in sight. The other is that you'll probably find a limited selection, with shopping a hit-or-miss proposition. Perhaps you can find that snowboard you've been keeping an eye on, but the store won't have your size in a new pair of boots. Such trade-offs are the stuff of sales.
But if you're flexible in what you need or want, you've got a way to express your love and snow and get equipped for more fun: Go shopping soon.
