Indulge with 'Sweet Treat Weekend' at PGA Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens

If you have a sweet tooth, the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens is where you need to be this weekend. There will be chocolate, wine, cupcakes and ice cream, along with activities for the kids and discounts on room packages. Stay for the whole weekend to take advantage of all the sugary goodness of the "Sweet Treat Weekend."

The fun starts of Friday night with the "Chocolate Affair" at iBAR. A buffet of chocolate desserts will be served from 7:30 - 9:30. This includes fountains of milk and white chocolate, a gourmet s'mores station and an old fashioned candy display. Balance out the sugar with artisan gourmet popcorn. Lincoln Culinary Institute will be on hand to give chocolate demonstrations. Luke's Ice Cream will offer an array of gourmet flavors, as well as the resort's specialty Bear Trap ice cream. There will even be ice cream inspired designer wines for the adults.

Admission is $25 for adults, which includes a coupon for one "Sweetini" drink, and $15 for kids under 12, which includes one soft drink.

Things get competitive Saturday with "the Great Cupcake Challenge" in the ballroom. The resort took the official Guiness Book World Record for longest ice cream sundae last year. Now they are trying to land the world record for the "world's largest cupcake wedding cake." Families will be able to help decorate and build a giant 12 foot cake. And then everyone is invited to eat it.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., the building starts at 2 p.m. and the event concludes at 4 p.m. The price is $30 per family in advance or $35 at the door. There will also be train rides, bounce houses, face painting , crafts and a petting zoo for the kids.

And if you aren't in a sugar coma yet, Sunday brings "the Big Taste Ultimate Ice Cream Social." This event includes over 40 varieties of gourmet, all natural sorbet, gelato and ice cream from sponsor Whole Foods. A wide assortment of toppings will be available, including wasabi peas, fruit, candy, sauces, nuts and candied bacon. Attendees will get a souvenir bowl and spoon to keep.

The all you can eat feast starts at noon. Local celebrates will face off in an ice cream eating contest at 2:20. Tweeting your favorite creation may win you a stay at the resort. Adults are $25, kids under 12 are $15 and children under five may share with their parents at no charge.
