The inductees into the "28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" will be inducted on Thursday, April 18, 2013, according to a Dec. 11, 2012, press release from HBO. The induction will be televised on HBO premium cable television on May 18, 2013 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces presenters for 28th induction
The announcement was made at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist and 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Flea announced the list of performer inductees and Ahmet Ertegun Award recipients for induction.
The "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" inductees in the performer category for are: Heart, Albert King, Randy Newman, Public Enemy, Rush and Donna Summer.
Ahmet Ertegun (non performer) Award recipients are: Lou Adler and Quincy Jones.
Rush consists of drummer Neil Peart, keyboard and bass player Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson. The band was formed in Canada in 1968.
Heart is fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. Over their long career, Heart has released six Top 10 albums and 20 Top 40 singles and has won four Grammy Awards. Randy Newman is a singer, songwriter and satirist who has won Academy Awards, Emmy Awards and Grammy Awards during the four decades of his career, so far.
Public Enemy is a Hip-Hop group consisting of Chuck D. (Carlton Ridenhour), Flavor Flav (William Drayton), Terminator X (Norman Lee Rogers) and Professor Griff (Richard Griffin). The group came together in 1986 at Adelphi University on Long Island.
Albert King was a bluesman who crossed over into soul. The musician was born in 1923 and passed away after a heart attack on Dec. 21, 1992. Joe Walsh (The Eagles) played a slide-guitar rendition of “Amazing Grace” as a tribute to King. King is being honored posthumously.
Donna Summer, known as the "Queen of Disco" passed away, at the age of 63, on May 18, 2012, of lung cancer. The singer's honor is being awarded posthumously.
Lou Adler has had a long and successful career that has extended from the music business to the film industry. Through his long career, Adler has been a singer and songwriter. He founded two record labels, Dunhill Records and Ode Records, and managed several artists,
Quincy Jones has had one of the longest, most successful careers in popular music. He is a record producer, conductor, arranger, film composer, television producer and trumpeter.
The "28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony" will be held at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. This marks the first time since 1993 that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on the West Coast. The ceremony will again be open to the public, as it was in 2009 and 2012 in Cleveland.
