The days of the orange colored, fake looking tans that were so common of the past, are long over. The myths, beliefs and information surrounding the health factors associated with tanning and tanning beds have been a controversial subject since the dawn of the tanning bed and the discovery of the many forms of cancer that now plague the people of our planet.
A new campaign, launched by the Canadian Dermatology Association, hopes to finally put an end to indoor tanning around North America by sharing the brave struggles of the five women featured in the campaign. The campaign, Indoor Tanning is Out, shares with readers through its web page the stories of Hope, Bianca, Jackie, Aimee and Marie-Pier. The page also provides a collection of information pertaining to the myths and dangers of tanning and reinforces that:
“Indoor tanning before the age of 30 has been associated with a significant increase in the risk of melanoma, and recently sun beds (UV tanning beds) were moved up to the highest cancer risk category—group 1— ‘carcinogenic to humans’ by the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer.”

One of the women, Bianca Castellano, is mentioned in the initial article I came across about this new campaign, published by the Brampton Guardian. The article entitled, Brampton woman tells her tanning bed cancer story, relays to readers that:
“A 25-year-old Brampton resident has become the poster model for a new national marketing campaign targeting women who frequently use tanning beds… Bianca Castellano, a skin cancer survivor, is one of several women featured in this new national media drive, launched by the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA) on Monday with the aim of informing people about the dangers of indoor tanning.”
Hopefully this campaign will help to finally shake the heads of the millions of North Americans that continue to tan, indoors or out, on a regular basis and help them to wean tanning out of their self care regime.
Added thought:
Since publishing this article today I came across an article disputing the facts provided by the CDA. I thought it should be added here...

I like this video, about the new campaign launched by CDA discussing that Indoor tanning is out! There are so many ways to get tan now, there is dangerous one, but why will you try those unsafe products and procedure if there is safe one and effective? Like the topic on this article, would you choose to have a beautiful skin but eventually you will discover that you have skin cancer or would you choose a pale skin but healthy. Sometimes being conscious to our body bring us to risks that may end up, death! Hope this video raises the consciousness of everyone about this issue.
