Halloween day is on Thurs., Oct. 31, 2013 and the Wed. news reports are predicting a rainy day, so indoor events for children may be very popular activities. Parents can take their youngsters on a fun outing and they can still have the enjoyment of wearing costumes and collecting treats. Following are some of the indoor Halloween events in the Northwestern suburbs of Chicago, including Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Gurnee and Vernon Hills, Ill.

The Elk Grove Village Park District is hosting Halloween at Jumps n' Jiggles indoor playground on Halloween morning, Thurs., Oct. 31 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). Spend Halloween morning at the carousel and Jumps n' Jiggles. Your child will can ride the carousel, make scary crafts and crawl through the Jumps n' Jiggles tunnels. Each child will leave with a special Halloween treat. Children may wear a costume, but it should be a costume they can run around in easily. Sock are required at all times. Admission is $3.50 per child, free for children one and under. The Pavillion Carousel is at 1000 Wellington Ave. in Elk Grove Village. Call 847-437-9494 for information.

Gurnee: Gurnee Mills Mall in hosts Boo Bash & Mall-O-Ween Event on Thurs. Oct. 31 (3-6 p.m.) Enjoy the Boo Bash from 3-6 p.m., and from 4-6 p.m. stop by the information desk for a free Halloween bag and visit the stores with the welcome pumpkins for goodies. Gurnee Mills Mall is in Lake County, near Six Flags Great America.

The Schaumburg Park District is hosting the Halloween Boonanza on Thurs., (6-9 p.m.), but the pre-registration deadline is 9 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 30, so act now to get a reservation.The Community Recreation Center and Safety Park will be turned into a Halloween carnival for kids and youth, aged 1 to 14 years old. Activities include hay rides, crafts, carnival games, moonwalk, entertainment, prizes, candy and trick or treating. Dare to go through the haunted house! Cost is $10 per child; day-of event is $12. Children will receive wristband and includes all activities except concessions. Parents and children age 1 and younger are free. The Halloween event is being held at the Community Recreation Center (505 N. Springinsguth Road) in Schaumburg, Ill. Call 847/490-7020 for information.

Vernon Hills: Westfield Hawthorn will host Mall-wide Trick-or-Treat for children ages 6 & under on Thurs., Oct 31 (11 a.m.-1 p.m.).
