CNN reported "Two people have died and more than 30,000 were displaced when a long-dormant volcano in Indonesia erupted again on Monday, officials said.
"Mount Sinabung, which had been dormant for more than 400 years before it erupted early Sunday, erupted again for more than six hours Monday, shooting smoke more than three miles into the air. The rumbling sent tremors into nearby villages, where officials said some residents panicked."
According to Xinhua, "The Volcanology Agency has not been certain yet when they will downgrade the top alert status of the mount, and recommended those living in the risky area of 6 kilometers from the mount to leave the area, head of the agency named only Surono has said."
"There are 129 active volcanoes to watch in Indonesia, which is spread across 17,500 islands and is prone to eruptions and earthquakes because of its location within the so-called 'Ring of Fire' — a series of fault lines stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia." said AP.
As I read about Mount Sinabung, I am reminded of Psalm144:5 "Bow your heavens, O LORD, and come down! Touch the mountains so that they smoke!"
