Indigo children is a term used to describe a child with the supposed gifts of psychic ability.
The word was first coined by author Nancy Anne Tappe, who published her first book "Understanding your life through color" in 1982, in which she mentioned that she saw several children in the 1960's born with blue auras surrounding them. As a self proclaimed psychic and synesthete, color took on a whole new meaning as synesthete is a neurological condition in which a person's perception of color when viewing everyday objects takes on a whole new dimension. Depending on the extent of the neurological condition even the black ink of the newspaper can appear as blue, pink, purple or red.
It was the 1998 book "The indigo children: The new kids have arrived" written by Lee Caroll and Jan Tober that sparked interest. In 2002 an international conference was held on Indigo Children in Hawaii, then in following years Florida and Oregon. The Carrols were no strangers to marketing techniques, as they were a husband and wife team who toured on the "self-help" circuit. Below is a link to an interesting website on Lee Carroll.

Various books have been market since, along with films and television shows describing a new breed of children, The Indigo Children, It has become a catch all phrase encompassing false stories of DNA code changes, prophetic children, to aliens from outer space breeding with humans. Theories based on the unproven. Who said 2012 is not sparking mass hysteria? Just think, its only 2009......
Although the video doesn't really apply to the "Indigo Children", it does make a point. The following YouTube video is about Marjoe Gortner. He was groomed by his parents to become a Minister at a very young age. Later in life, he disclosed the truth. The manipulation of his childhood was child abuse. It was done for gain. Gain of money, and gain of social standing within their religious community. I supplied this video to demonstrate the extreme lengths some parents will go through to get the attention they crave., I really dislike stage mothers, don't you?
Childhood is sacred ground. Each child is special. Color is not a significant indicator of an individual physically or spiritually. As all colors can be used by positive and negative entities alike. It is the luminescence of the soul that shines through everything that counts. May each child shine brightly.
