Indies at the Oscars

Well I hope you enjoyed watching the Oscars yet again. It is always spectacular and generally fun. You gotta love Ellen handing our pizza. But what you may not have observed was how much the independent filmmaker has grown within this industry. Oh those mighty studios are still very much alive and well, but indies are there and growing even faster. Just consider this.

This marks the 11th time in the past 12 years that the Oscar® for “Best Picture” has gone to an independent filmmaker, as 12 Years A Slave (2014) joins The Artist (2012), The King’s Speech (2011) and The Hurt Locker (2010) among recent winners.
