It started in the '80s: Rebellious misfit teens swept the music world creating tunes from melancholy guitar riffs, to less than mainstream pop, to rebel-with-a-cause punk. Indie music has remained a beacon of light for the wayward soul, evolving, as the indie individual evolved, into folk, rap, hip-hop, techno- indie has reached out and touched every corner of the music world... But what about fashion?
The simple answer is: yes. For so many indie has become more than a genre, but something that identifies them and makes them, well, an indie-vidual. Indie is not however a "fashion statement" or a trend like "hipsters" but it's made up of several styles and attitudes that embody the music, the bands, and the followers.
