Indie drama marks the big screen return of Oscar winner Mo’Nique

Actress Mo'Nique to return to big screen in indie drama

After her Oscar winning performance in the 2009 film “Precious” actress Mo’Nique seem to disappear off the movie industry radar. Her fans will be happy to know she is returning in a project by director Patrik-Ian Polk. The multi-hypenated entertainer stars and has an executive producer’s role in the drama “Blackbird” according to a report at Deadline on Monday Jan. 6.

The film which also stars actor Isaiah Washington is about a small town teen struggling with his sexual identity while his sister goes missing and his parents’ marriage breaks up. Mo’Nique and Washington will star as the parents in the film. “Blackbird” is adapted from the novel by Larry Duplechan.

Mo’Nique who is also a comedienne starred in the hit television series “The Parkers”. In addition to other television work she has starred in several movies including “Phat Girlz”, “Two Can Play that Game”, “Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins” and “Precious” for which she won the Acadmey Award for best supporting actress.
