The Griffin's Boy by Julia Hughes

In a world where only those of noble birth are invited to join the elite Griffin Riders, orphan Neb is destined for a life of drudgery. His path changes when he steals the disobedient young griffin Balkind in an attempt to prove that you don't need noble blood to become a hero.
Join "The Griffin's Boy" on the adventure of a lifetime as he encounters girls for the very first time, learns the meaning of friendship and battles evil forces for his very soul.

About the Author:

I'm the London born author of "The Celtic Cousins' Adventures"; there are three full length ebooks in this series - so far! The Griffin Riders' Chronicles comprise "The Griffin Cryer", (Urban Fantasy) and "The Griffin's Boy", (Dark Fantasy). Griffins are traditionally the guardians of London, and I've always imagined them to be more warm blooded than dragons, with a hybrid character of horses and dogs. In our world, they're considered mythical, but in a parallel universe, our world has a twin, and griffins are very real!
