The Indianapolis Colts released safety Bob Sanders on Friday.
Bob Sanders is a two-time Pro-Bowl player who played on the Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl XLI championship team.
"We have released Bob Sanders today," Indianapolis Colts chief executive officer Jim Irsay said in a statement. "We thank Bob for all his incredible contributions, from his Super Bowl interception to his Defensive Player-of-the-Year honor."
Bob Sanders is a second round draft pick from 2004 but has only started 46 regular season games since entering the NFL.
Bob Sanders finished his Indianapolis Colts career with 373 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three fumbles recovered, two fumbles forced and six interceptions.
"I want to thank Mr. Irsay for the opportunity to play with the Colts," Bob Sanders said. "I appreciate all he and the organization did for me throughout my career, and I always will consider myself a Colt. I want to thank the fans also for their great support. They played a big part in making my seven years with the team very rewarding."
Bob Sanders only played six games in 2008, two in 2009 and one in 2010. Sanders is 29 years old and will take a reduction from the $6 million he could have received from the Indianapolis Colts. There is a chance the Colts could re-sign Bob Sanders but hurt feelings might get in the way.
Someone should take a chance on Bob Sanders at a discount rate but he will have to prove in training camp he can make it into the season in good health.
