Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay did not set a good example for his players over the weekend. According to NBC Sports on March 17, Irsay was arrested in Carmel, Indiana on multiple charges.

The Colts owner is facing preliminary charges that include operating a vehicle while intoxicated and procession of a controlled substance. His bond has been set at $22,500. With a net worth of $1.6 billion, Irsay can more than afford the bond, but the NFL owner has deeper issues to worry about besides the charges he is facing.

With a past history of drug and alcohol abuse, Irsay claimed back in October 2013 that he does not drink alcohol via twitter in response to another user.

“Actually working, sorry naysayers..I don’t drink…haven’t in over 15 years...I know when your unhappy or jealous it’s easy to b mean-spirited.”

Has Irsay fell off that wagon? Speculation is that he may have reverted back to use of painkillers, a substance he has admitted to abusing in the past.

A spokesman for Jim Irsay has released no statement regarding his arrest, but is expected to sometime Monday morning. While players in the NFL receive discipline from the league for pleading guilty to DUI charges, Irsay as an owner may face discipline for his OWI and possession of a controlled substance charges if he indeed pleads guilty.
