Indiana to drug test those in employment aid program

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development is Indiana’s training program and hiring referral organization for the unemployed. Their position is to train and take applications for companies that are hiring. Those people using this state program have been handed a pee cup to aid in the determination of eligibility.

The department has decided to start drug checks of those in and those entering the program. Their reasoning is this; it is a waste of time and resources to aid an applicant that will later be barred from employment for a failed drug test by the hiring company.

The first offense of failure will result in a six month ban from services. The second offense will be a yearlong ban. The department said they will also refer the offenders to a drug rehab program. There is no word if they will also aid in criminal charges against the offenders for illegal activity.
