Travel in central and southern Indiana may be extremely hazardous for the Friday morning commute. The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Winter Storm Warning for central and southern Indiana from Thursday night through Friday December 6, 2013 at midnight.
The wintry mix of precipitation is expected to bring the threat of freezing rain and sleet changing to snow overnight into Friday morning. The NWS is predicting 5 to 7 inches of snow in central Indiana including the Indy metro area. Southern Indiana may see from 7 to 10 inches before the snow ends Friday night.
WTHR TV in Indianapolis already has 36 listings for Friday closings or delays for schools and other facilities. Local weather forecasters are warning of the possibility of power outages due to freezing rain and sleet bringing down power lines throughout the affected area.
Road conditions are already deteriorating. WTHR is reporting many snow covered slick and hazardous road surfaces. Many vehicles have suffered slide offs and minor traffic accidents. Travel will be challenging, to say the least.
This storm will likely cause havoc in Indiana Friday. Use caution when traveling.
