The Indian Summer Festival, held on the Milwaukee Lakefront, at the Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest Grounds) will be on September 11 – 13, 2009. The culture and traditions of the Native
American Indians are celebrated at this unique festival, well worth the drive to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Indian Pow Wow is one of the highlights of the festival, with the Indians of different tribes gathering and dancing in their fancy and traditional outfits for a community event. The Pow Wow is a combination of traditional singing, dancing and storytelling. The drums pound and bright colors and feathers swirl as the dancers present a vibrant pageant.
The Indian Summer Festival offers a rare glimpse into the world of the Native Americans, with live demonstrations of skills and crafts, including beadwork, pottery, basket weaving, pottery, bow and arrow making and finger wearing.
The food area offers Native American favorites, such as frybread and buffalo. There are also more familiar festival foods available, such as ice cream and hot dogs.
