A 13-year-old Indian girl was gang raped and set on fire by three men in her village in Indian, according to a variety of sources including a USA Today report late Wednesday night. Following the horrific incident, at a hospital, the girl died with 80 percent of her body burned. The girl – an eighth grader – was from a village in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh.
According to the report, the victimized girl went to a farm with her older sister, and as the two returned, the three accused villagers dragged the younger girl away and gang raped her. The girl told the alleged offenders that she would tell other villagers – and that’s when they set her on fire. It was revealed that a person named Ram Bahadur was one of the villagers involved.
During the rape, the older of the two sisters ran to get help, but when family and neighbors got back to the scene of the crime, the younger sister had already been burned.
The police are in the process of searching for the suspects in the case.
Safety for women has become a major issue in India in recent times. Just last year, a 23-year-old woman was raped by six persons on a bus, and then she was thrown from the vehicle in New Delhi. The woman died from her injuries.
