India Bans Gays, GCG Moves Out.

In 2009, the Indian Supreme Court ruled that an 1861 law prohibiting homosexuality was unconstitutional. However, this week, the Indian Supreme Court reinstated the 1861 law, which makes homosexuality a serious offense leading to heafty fines and 10 years imprisonment.

The Global Conservation Group has an office in India. Jordan Turner, President of the organization says "After many discussions with our Indian legal council and staffers, we've determined that we simply cannot operate in a country that considers some of our staff members "criminals" for the way they are born".

After being constructed in April 2011, the GCG India office will close December 31, 2013. The organization's cruelty and rescue cases will be transferred to PETA India and Global Conservation Group USA.
