July 4 1776 a new country, called America was born.  Freeing ourselves from the clutches of Great Britan our fore fathers formed a union. Over 200 years later, this country has seen it's share of  civil wars,  unprovoked aggression and numerous protests.

July 4 2009,  we took a day to honor those that are still serving our country, and to also celebrate however we see it. Some people will do this with a cook out,  others will watch fireworks. Still others want a parade.

Philadelphia, the birthplace of the nation has all three. A cook out and block party on the Ben Franklin Parkway, Fireworks  and one of the largest parades in the nation on July 4.  With over 100 different participants, the  parade stretched every bit of the  route through the historic district.  Firetrucks, marching bands, floats and animals, this parade had it all.

It got off to a late start after the welcoming ceremony at Independence Hall.   Almost directly after three military  fighters flew over the historic area, the  Police Motorcycle Unit was leading the  way. The parade lasted over an hour. People walked around the area, visiting different displays set up on Independence Mall, then went back to watching the parade.
