Independence Day celebrations and more this week

There are a lot of terrific events coming up this week, June 30 – July 6 in Orlando that feature live music. Aside from the special Independence Day celebrations, there is a charity event that includes a beard competition, a CD release show and many more reasons for music fans to get out of the house and support Orlando music.

Stiletto Red’s Kickstarter is still underway. Help the band earn enough money for their next CD and earn some unique perks at the same time, there are still some good ones left. The band has until July 11 to hit their goal.

On July 1, Orlando band Ancient Sun’s Kickstarter takes off. The band is looking to earn enough money to record and release their next CD.

Friday, Moonmen From Mars is officially releasing their CD, The Horrors of Dr. Jones” at their I-4 Fest show. The single day music festival at Austin’s Coffee & Film will have 26 bands on two stages.

There is a unique event at Johnny’s Fillin’ Station on Saturday. There is a beard competition and hot rod show with the proceeds going to charity. There will also be live music from Rocket 88, The Bloody Jug Band, The WildTones and LONE WOLF (one man band).

Monday, June 30

Uncle Lou’s - 1016 N. Mills Ave. - Live music by Boddicker, Axis, Lesion, Mom & Dan and False Punk for this show. The bands start at 9 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge.

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) - RPR presents open mic hosted by Rhenn Again at 8 p.m. This FREE event is 18+.

Tuesday, July 1

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - Twisted Tuesday with Burgundy for this 18+ show. This FREE event includes live music and other entertainment as well as a home-cooked meal, with a $2 donation to the Red Lion Community Emergency Fund. The live music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Bombshell’s Tavern - 5405 Edgewater Dr. - Live music by Abiotic, ABDOMEN CANVAS, Hour of Peril, The Bride Wore Blood, Uncle Rukus, Hurricane Charley and Entombed in the Abyss for this all ages show. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 day of show. The doors open at 7 p.m.

BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - Live performances by Robb Bank$ and Mikey Rocks for this show. The doors open at 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $10 or special meet and greet tickets are available for $30.

Tanqueray’s - 100 S. Orange Ave. - Live music from The Groove Orient at 10:30 p.m. for this FREE 21+ show.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Tstone at 8 p.m.

Dexter’s Winter Park - 558 W. New England Ave. - Live acoustic music from the Holcomb Brothers at 6:30 p.m.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from B.B. King’s All Star Band at 8 p.m.

Smiling Bison - 745 Bennett Road - Jazz Garage, an evening of improvisational jazz music featuring special guests at 10 p.m. There is no cover charge for this 18+ event.

On line everywhere - WPRK 91.5 - WPRK’s Local Heroes radio show from 5-7 p.m. features local talent from actors, directors, photographers, entrepreneurs, and musicians with DJ Daniel Pacchioni and co-hosts Ilene Leiber and George Wallace playing music from local Orlando bands. Wall Street Plaza - 19 N. Orange Ave. - Red, White & Brew block party with live music from The Lighter Exchange, drink specials and more during the two day celebration.

Cranes Roost Park - 274 Cranes Roost Blvd. (Altamonte Springs) – Red, Hot and Boom kicks off at 4 p.m. and features live music from Alex Angelo, Alex & Sierra, Echosmith, Ingrid Michaelson, American Authors and A Great Big World. This is a FREE event and will be simulcast on XL 106.7. There will be fireworks at around 9:30 p.m. No pets, coolers or personal fireworks are allowed.

The Social - 54 North Orange Ave. - Live music by The Menzingers, Lemuria, PUP and Cayetana for this show. Tickets are $16 in advance or $18 day of show. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Dandelion Communitea Cafe - 618 N. Thornton Ave. - Live music by the Wortzinol Trio from 8-10 p.m.

Dexter’s Winter Park - 558 W. New England Ave. - Live music from the Midnight Ramblers at 8 p.m.

Austin’s Coffee and Film - 929 W. Fairbanks Ave. – Enjoy a day filled with live music, an art fair and homemade baked goods at the ninth annual I-4 fest. There will be 26 bands on two stages including The Adolescent Theory, Allura Luna, Boss Omnivore, Bucket of Nails, Free Fall, Grizzly Atoms, Happy Valley, Irrelephant, Jahnopa, Lauren Galant, Luscious Lisa, Moonmen from Mars, Oklahoma Stackhouse, Raspberry Pie, Sterling Schroeder, Succulent Thing, Tam Tam the Sandwich Man and the Magical Sugar Cookies, Uncle Tonto, The Woolly Bushmen, Yogurt Smoothness, Brian Killeen, John Cunningham, Roger CorVette, Sol rey, Studebaker Hawk and Zubora for this day long music festival. This is also the CD release show for Moonmen from Mars’ debut “The Horrors of Dr. Jones.” Tickets are $5 and the event starts at noon.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. - Live music by On To Omaha, Andrew Williams Band, Cloudrive and Casket Noise for this show. There is a $5 cover before 9 p.m. and $7 after. The doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) – Familygang’s “ABEARICA” 4 of July party featuring live music by Phraydoe Peans, American Jesus, Tears of a Tyrant, Succulent Thing, Ferrum Dei, Trini Elev8, T Jenkins, Boss Omnivore, Brigitte Hart, Roger Corvette and Shaman Treez as well as DJ sets from Dixxlephunk, DJ Cub and DJ Jay Mob. There is an American themed costume contest and drink specials for this FREE event. The doors open at 7 p.m.

Celebration Town Center - 610 Sycamore St., Suite 210 (Celebration) – The second annual Sci-Fi 4th of July in Celebration featuring live music, a movie themed costume contest and Town Center’s KidZone with an assortment of inflatable games, including a jousting area, bounce houses, face painting and more. There will be live music by Oliver’s Queen, Carly Jo Jackson, Gina Marie Incandela, DJ Tami and The Dixieland Jazz Band. Parking and admission are FREE.

Fort Mellon Park - 600 East First St. (Sanford) - Star Spangled Sanford 2014 featuring fireworks, live entertainment, kid’s activities and more from 5-10 p.m. There will be live music from The Actomatics, The Paul Stott Group and more at this FREE event.

Wall Street Plaza - 19 N. Orange Ave. - Red, White & Brew block party celebration with live music from the Lighter Exchange, drink specials and of course the Red, White & Brew Karaoke Competition.

Lake Eola - 195 N Rosalind Ave. – The annual Fireworks at the Fountain event from 4-10 p.m. There will be fireworks and music by Good Luck Penny, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and Orlando Concert Band. The fireworks are expected to blast off at 9:10 p.m.

Cafe Murano - 309 Cranes Roost Blvd. (Altamonte Springs) - Live music from Skin Deep.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Shaun Rounds Blues Band from 6-8:30 p.m. and B.B. King’s All Star Band at 9 p.m.

Johnny’s Fillin’ Station - 2631 S. Fern Creek Ave. - 'Merica featuring hot rods, a beard competition and live music from Rocket 88, The Bloody Jug Band, The WildTones and LONE WOLF (one man band). The beard competition categories are full beard, freestyle, partial and mustache. This event is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. There is a suggested $5 entry fee or FREE with a canned good donation. A percentage of the proceeds from the event will go to Pledge4Patriots Inc.

House of Blues Orlando - 1490 E. Buena Vista Dr. - K92.3 presents live music from Greg Warren Band, Good Luck Penny and Jamie Davis Band for this show. Tickets are FREE from the bands or $5 at the door. The doors open at 7:30 p.m.
