Incumbents Ruben Wills and Donovan Richards of the 28 and 31 City Council District respectively, were the winners of their primary races on September 10th. Ruben Wills faced challenges from two candidates from Rochdale Village. He was the target of a negative snail mail campaign in which he gave almost as good as he got. Councilman Wills came to campaigning late in the game, yet maintained a full slate of events during the election season.
Councilman Richards began his campaigning early, as soon as he took office in the Special Election he won. In that special race, the Councilman faced several challengers with a count that went down to the wire against candidate Pescha Osina from Far Rockaway. Pescha is now a member of Donovan’s staff and the Councilman will retain his title. Councilman Richards will face Scherie Murray, a Republican, in the General Election. Murray recently received the endorsement of Joe Lhota who won the Republican Primary for Mayor.
Election results reflect 99% of precincts reporting. The official count is due from the Board of Elections by the end of next week.
