Oh yes the holiday season is rapidly approaching. For many of us, it’s a time for stressing out. There’s so much to prepare for. We need candy for trick-or-treaters, a costume for our children, plane tickets to join the family for Thanksgiving dinner, and of course, Christmas gifts for all of the loved ones. For marketers, this is a time for planning, executing and having loads of fun. This time of year is perfect for including a holiday themed campaign to your social media marketing strategy. You can start with Halloween. Remember one of the best parts of social media is that you have the opportunity to engage with your customers.
There are a few different ways to run holiday sweepstakes or fun contests for all of your followers to enjoy. You could have your fans dress up in costumes and send in their photos. Then you and your marketing team can vote on the best costume and give out a prize. You could also have your fans write a short scary story and you could give out a bag of candy for the author that you think wrote the best tale.
If you don’t want to have your fans work so hard and getting a gift, you could give out points for their engagement. This is often called a Top Fans Leaderboard, and the winner is the fan that has the most points after the given time period.
What if you don’t have many fans and you are just now jumping on board to social media for business? You can still take advantage of this time of year for your social media marketing strategy. For example, you could decide on a real nice gift to give away, normally electronics and cash are popular with the public, and simply have people like your Facebook page. Once they like your page, they will be entered to win the prize by a random drawing. This is a great social media marketing strategy because it not only gets people to like your company Facebook page, but it also gets the people to start talking about your page and thus getting them to pay attention to your brand. Create a buzz around your giveaway by sending out a fun press release and an eye catching email if you have an email list.
Sweepstakes giveaways and contest are one of those social media marketing strategies that will require some sort of budget to get the best results, but it doesn’t have to be a large budget. Get with your team and decide what kind of contest or sweepstakes will work for your brand, then choose a prize. It’s good practice to give the grand prize winner a gift that has something to do with your business.
So outside of work might be a bit stressful around this time of year for all of us, but while you’re at work, make sure fun is a part of your social media marketing strategies. Fun for your company plus fun for your fans, and you have the formula to a successful close to your social media campaign for the year.
