Everyday, it seems, the world is becoming increasingly aware of what this nation's capital city has to offer besides tricky politics and marble statues. Once voted among the top ugliest cities by unwitting people who only had political heads to pass judgement on, the true beauty of DC is now a worldwide phenom. As more transplants are moved into and around the city, the people, sights, trends, hearts, and true culture of D.C. is now evident. Part of that alluring culture of D.C. is our appreciation for art, charity, and a good party.
Saturday, January 19, 2013, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., widely known photographer to the stars and graphic designer Lavan Anderson, his mentee and artist in his own right, Wynton Harvey, and abstract artist Jeff Palmer, manage to combine that entertainment trifecta of art, charity, and a good party, all while celebrating the second inauguration of President Obama at Art Whino art gallery at the National Harbor. The inaugural event, amply titled Inaugural Appreciation Affair v2, was a free event powered by Ciroc and Chesapeake Bay Roasting company and hosted by Emmy Award winning anchor Cynne' Simpson and WPGC radio host Sunni. The event guests were also treated to music and food for the soul, with DJ Lil Mic spinning, and Carolina Kitchen catering. Organized by Ian Callender of Sneaker Suite event planning and production, the event drew in appearances from such esteemed guests as Elle Varner, Steve and Marjorie Harvey, Raheem DeVaughn, and many others. At a time where everyone was capitalizing off of the flood of people in our capital city, it was refreshing to see an event that spared no expense while also not charging the guests. What was also amazing, was that the free with RSVP event induced the same feeling of connectivity, exclusivity, and artistry as events charging hundreds of dollars that same night and speaks to the efficiency of the entire event production team.
