In which the Westboro Baptist get one right for a change…sort of (Video)

Everyone has heard of the Westboro Baptists who make their livings as professional protestors and lawsuit plaintiffs. They’re known for trying to protest military funerals saying it was “God’s will” that a soldier died, or picketing churches with whom they don’t agree, or who they believe are too accepting of homosexuals.

Now, in a tweet, the Westboro Baptist Church said:

At least 5 deaths in Illinois alone as hospitals scrample to keep up w/flu patients. Deut. 28.60 time!

Deuteronomy 28:60 says: Moreover he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.

This flu season is one of the worst in recent memories. At least 42 states have reported widespread cases. More than, 2,200 people have been hospitalized and some 18 children in the Unites States have died from the flu this season.

The WBC wants you to believe that the flu is God’s punishment upon the United States. That man’s sin is the cause of the disease and in particular the recent deaths.

They’re right. But only partly.

While the WBC wants to selectively quote Scripture to prove their point, the conveniently ignore other passages. In Romans we read:

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Romans 5:12.

So, yes, it was the sin of Adam which we all bear that brought disease and death into the world.

But unlike the WBC wants to you believe, God is not up there showering us with germs every time we sin.
