In wake of debate, Senate candidates disclose fundraising totals

Saturday night's Senate debate at Kennesaw State University wasn't the only news to come out of the race to replace Saxby Chambliss in the Senate. The candidates for Senate had until Saturday to disclose their fundraising amounts and balance sheets for their campaigns, and some campaigns appear to be in much healthier shape financially than others.

Leading the way was Jack Kingston, who raised $880,000 in the last quarter of 2013. He now stands with a war chest of $3.4 million - a pretty hefty sum to saturate the airwaves of Atlanta over the next few months so he can drive up his numbers in the metro area.

Second for the quarter was Paul Broun, who raised $241,000. However, he spent over half a million dollars and sits with just $187,000 in cash on hand.

Third for the quarter was Karen Handel, raising $168,000. However, she has been shrewder in her spending, and actually has more on hand than Broun. Handel has about $328,000 on hand now, while staying close to the top in polls with Knigston and Broun.

The bigger disappointment in fundraising was Phil Gingrey. Gingrey raised only about $100,000 to lag behind his competition. However, he still boasts a campaign fund over $2 million, which he will need to counter poor polling numbers that place him fourth or worse.

David Perdue reported decent numbers in fundraising - which would be fine if the majority of contributions and loans to his campaign hadn't come from himself. Perdue has loaned his campaign fund another $500,000 to add to previous loans already made.

On the Democrat side, Michelle Nunn has about $1.6 million in her campaign fund - but not a lot of expenses for the next few months, until her Republican opponent is determined.
