In tune with Eric Joseph

“I have been playing guitar since I was 12 years old,” said local musician Eric Joseph of Orlando band Blaine the Mono. “My father played in bands in the 60’s and brought me up on the importance of music and song writing structure.”

Joseph cites his musical influences as The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, Deftones, The Ronnettes, The Toadies, and Chuck Berry. He most admires “Paul McCartney, Kurt Cobain, and Chuck Berry, because of their gift to relate to anybody through chord progressions and lyrics. I learned everything I know about song writing from the McCartney school.”

Before Blaine the Mono, the local musician was the lead vocalist and guitarist in another Orlando band, Atrophy. “I have a very Blues based lead guitar style and a very old school Rock ’N Roll chord style.”

All of the band members contribute to the band’s songs. “I write most of our songs in their early stages on my acoustic guitar, and then bring them in for us as a band to expand on them and make them better and complete.”

“We have a strong female lead vocalist and we are perfectionists about song writing. Nothing gets approved unless it moves and inspires all of us. We can go from sweet to savage in a split second.”

Joseph’s plan for his musical future isn’t any different than what he is already doing. “I want to keep writing music and expressing myself on stage. It is the best therapy I know of!”

Blaine the Mono, Randi Stickles (lead vocals), Eric Joseph (guitar), Chris Culverwell (bass), and Clifton Garner (drums), is one of the bands competing at Rock For Blood to be Orlando’s Bloodiest Band March 17th at The Haven. The band that gets the most donated blood in their name will win the title.
