“I listen to ALL kinds of music,” said local musician Charles Washington, drummer for Orlando band Ideal Zero. “I listen to everything from Metal to Pop to Bluegrass to Country to Rap to Techno. I just LOVE music in general. It’s my number one passion in life.”
“I think I’m a fairly versatile drummer, mainly Hard Rock/Metal, but I guess I also have a bit of Punk/Pop style. I drum to a lot of different types of music. I’m self taught, and I’ve always played to my iPod. My style has developed from playing several different genres of music, from the various bands I play to, and the drummers in those bands. I’ve learned different techniques from all the drummers I listen to.”
“Not usually,” was his response about getting nervous before a performance. “I feel like this is what I’m meant to do in life. I always enjoy being on stage. I’m in my own little world when I’m behind my kit. I always have a smile on my face.”
Washington’s view about whether or not local bands should help each other out points out that it can be a double-edged sword. “I’m aiming bigger than being a local band for long. But I think it’s a bit of both, it’s good to network with other bands, to get shows with them, build a local fan base, and get known. But you should also make the right moves and watch who you associate with and watch what you do.”
As far as Ideal Zero’s music, the local musician wants fans to get “The emotions, the passion, and the realness.”
